Instant Bean Trellis

Gardening is About Adjustments…Just Like Life

Happy Fourth of July everyone!  We have wonderful weather in the San Francisco Bay Area today….looks like it may even be fog-free for fireworks tonight.

The garden is coming along well; I had the first tomato from the new Fourth of July variety today.  There are several more starting to turn red so I think it’s safe to declare the opening day of Tomato Season.

On my morning garden walk, I noticed that the green bean plants were doing exceptionally well….a little too well.  Remember our morning walk a few days ago when I commented on the lovely green bean plants?

The Romano Bush Beans seemed to be a bit too tall. Where in heck did those tendrils come from overnight.

Holy Jack and the Bean Stalk!  The bush beans are really pole beans!  These things may come in the door to my studio and strangle me while I work.

Luckily, Mr. Hensongs provided some trellis from the emergency Henny and Penny corral.  I finally had to thin the plants and it looks we’re going to have a great crop of green beans this year.

Notice the Blue Tarp Gazebo is also down and Henny and Penny are getting some holiday time in the garden, too.

Since it’s Independence Day, I have to put a plug in for the National Kitchen Garden at the White House.  It’s definitely a day to put partisan politics aside and applaud Michelle Obama, our First Lady, for all of the work she’s doing to bring fresh, homegrown food, back in style.

If you haven’t done so already, check out her book.
