Henny and Penny here….we’re posting today because our humans are busy cleaning up a “hot mess”, literally. We woke up this morning, stretched our feet, and came out of our coop to a view of the neighborhood we haven’t seen before. A large section of fence is missing and there’s a new pile of burnt wood in the yard. Looks like it’s a great place to peck for tasty bits but that will have to wait.

Seems that the BBQ of last evening (great time meeting new friends and strutting our stuff) resulted in a charcoal briquette falling into an open bag of peat moss. The crackling sound and “glow” from the backyard caught Greg’s attention and he rallied like a trouper with his garden hose to put out the flames. The lesson learned is that there’s a really good reason people in some parts of the world burn peat in their fireplaces…it makes a good HOT fire.

We missed the hubbub of the fire fighters chain-sawing the fence, potting table, and part of the deck away. I’m sure we could have contributed some editorial clucking to the event.

The good news is that no animals or humans were hurt and just a few plants received a singe. We’ll post pictures of the new construction as soon as we figure out how to work the camera with our feet and beaks.

Oh no!!! Glad it wasn't a total disaster, but what a pain! Henny and Penny, you are awfully big for chicks?

Henny and Penny here…yep, we are almost adults. We're considered "laying age" which is 16-20 weeks. Can't figure out why our people keep checking our nest for eggs.

Wa ha!! That is soo funny! Thanks. Something about chickens…isn’t there! Sadly, I can see this happening in my own home!
